Types of Servers and Hosting They Offer

Hosting is a service of rendering disk space for physical storage of information on a server that is permanently located on the web. Hosting can differ, and the range of services that are available for each of them differs, too. For example, shared hosting means that several websites are located at the same server. Such hosting can be free or rendered at a certain cost, depending on the number of resources, required by a website. This hosting is the cheapest, so it is chosen by owners of small websites. Shared hosting is easy to operate with basic knowledge. Shared hosting has one important detail: if your site starts to surpass its share of resources, it is turned off.

VPS and Dedicated Servers

VPS hosting allows your website to have a part of disk space, processor time and a part of general memory. There can be several websites at the same hosting, and all of them can work separately from each other. Unlike the first option, VPS hosting is somewhat tunable, but resources are still limited, especially if neighboring websites consume a lot due to their popularity. Dedicated servers are more comfortable from this point of view, but they can be very expensive. This service is a good choice for a large website that needs a lot of resource and makes the hosting cost-effective.

Cloud Servers

You can tune the server as you like, have full root access to a distributive of the OS you choose and appoint. The price of such a server will depend directly on the amount of resources your site will use.

Their Main Difference

The main difference between cloud and dedicated servers is in the possibility of output development, without stopping your website activities, transmitting all your data to a new server or waiting while your current one will be improved. The difference between cloud and VPS is in the amount of resource: no VPS can guarantee that your site will receive its share, because of other, more powerful websites at the same server. In a word, cloud hosting is the option that should be chosen for dynamically developing popular Internet projects.
